TI introduces the industry's first single-chip 60V electrical fuse with reverse polarity protection

Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) today introduced its first single-chip fuses with back-to-back FETs that provide the industry's highest level of protection up to 60V. The TPS2660 has advanced chip features such as reverse polarity protection and reverse current blocking and is the most integrated electrical fuse on the market for power management in 24 V and 48 V rail applications in industrial, automotive and communications infrastructure designs.

TPS2660 main features and advantages of electric fuses:

Integrated back-to-back FET: The device's unique architecture enables the TPS2660 to:

O Reverse polarity protection is provided to prevent system load wiring errors in industrial equipment with screw terminals.

O Reverse current blocking prevents current from flowing back to the input side from the output side.

O Advanced protection and integration reduces board space by eliminating the need for external components.

    * Adjustable overvoltage protection up to 60 V: to help designers quickly and reliably through industry-standard surge compliance testing, including electrical fast transient (EFT) test.

The input protection and standby power design of the 25W PLC controller unit is now being designed, with the LM5002 and LM5160 DC / DC converters providing standby power to meet International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 61000-4 specifications.

The TPS2660 is the newest addition to TI's portfolio of fuse products that provide overvoltage, overcurrent, and short-circuit protection for applications. The product portfolio covers protection components for industrial, personal electronics, automotive and enterprise systems.
