Cypress Will Offer Mobile Touchscreen Development Kit For Qualcomm’s Snapdragon

Cypress Semiconductor Inc. is partnering with Qualcomm Inc. in a unique alliance to provide mobile-computing development kits for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor.  The kits will be based on the TrueTouch touchscreen technology that uses Cypress’s PSoC (Programmable System on a Chip) technology.  Developers can choose the suppliers of glass or film touchscreens or LEDs they wish to use, as well choose a flat or curved surface, as well as the thickness of the touchscreen surface.

The development kits will be offered through both Cypress and BSQUARE Corp., a Cypress partner specializing in embedded development tools and bundled hardware-software products.

Cypress also announced that TrueTouch now supports the Android 3.0 Honeycomb platform.  Honeycomb uses a new, holographic-like user interface to optimize the operating system for larger platforms such as tablet computers.  For better support of Honeycomb, Cypress has a new single-chip TrueTouch solution, the CY8CT884 PSoC with up to 60 sensing I/O channels, to support touchscreens of up to 11.6 inches in size.
