TI chip streams home audio over 2.4GHz

Texas Instruments has announced a 2.4GHz chip that transmits up to four uncompressed audio channels for homw audio.

Called CC8530, there is also a development kit and reference design.

"The offering for high-quality headsets and headphones has a total electronic bill-of-material cost of less than $5 in high-volume production, and achieves a 22hour life on a 465mAh battery," said the firm.

"We've done all back-end work, so engineers can build a prototype in less than one day," added product marketing manager Erling Simensen. "With the ability to stream two stereo streams from one audio source to several receivers, headphones can easily switch between two audio streams coming from one stereo system."
