    Apple to spend $22bn on chips this year

    Apple, which became the world’s biggest buyer of chips last year, will extend its lead over No.2 placed HP this year, according to iSuppli

    Last year Apple bought chips worth $17.5bn which was 80% more than it bought in 2009. This year it is expected to spend $22bn. HP is expected to spend $15bn.

    Apple spent 61% its semiconductor budget in 2010 on wireless products such as iPhones and iPads. In contrast, 82% HP’s 2010 semiconductor spending went on computers and servers.
