Mirics adds TV tuner to Intel motherboard

Mirics, the developer of software-based global TV receiver, has secured a design in with Intel on a motherboard.

Intel’s DH61AG motherboard will include a dual-tuner digital terrestrial TV mini-card based on silicon and software developed by Mirics.

The FlexiTV-powered MC002 mini-card is produced by Yuan High-Tech and will provide digital terrestrial TV reception across all global standards.

“The addition of Mirics’ FlexiTV global solution to our small and flexible DH61AG Mini-ITX motherboard is leading the charge on delivering integrated, rich multimedia capabilities at compelling cost points," said Michelle Johnston, general manager of Intel’s Channel Platform and Solutions Division.

Demonstrations at Computex 2011 will use standard playback software such as Windows Media Center with the dual-tuner design.

“Coupling Intel’s multimedia offering with the Mirics’ solution for global broadcast TV, tied to the motherboard, makes for a compelling package,” said Simon Atkinson, CEO, Mirics.

Yuan’s FlexiTV-enabled MC002 dual-tuner mini-card solution integrated with Pegatron motherboards based on the DH61AG reference design are sampling now and will be in full production later this summer.

Other Mirics-enabled global TV products in a variety of form-factors will also be shown during Computex 2011 in Taipei.
